Rourkela: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Government Railway Police (GRP) seized ganja worth around ₹30 lakh from the parcel warehouse at Rourkela Railway Station on Thursday. The contraband, packed in two large sacks, was reportedly being prepared for smuggling to New Delhi.
Acting on a credible tip-off, the GRP team conducted a surprise raid around 2 PM inside the parcel warehouse on the station premises. During the operation, officers discovered the two sacks, which had been booked earlier in the day at the parcel office for dispatch to Delhi via the Sambalpur–Jammu Tawi Express.
Police sources said the operation prevented the consignment from being loaded onto the train. The seized cannabis has been sent for verification, and a detailed investigation is underway to identify those involved in the smuggling network.
This seizure comes barely a day after ganja worth crores of rupees was recovered from three locations in Malkangiri district, underscoring an intensified police crackdown on inter-state narcotics trafficking across Odisha.
