Berhampur: Senior Biju Janta Dal (BJD) leaders from Ganjam district supported the party’s decision to expel Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi.
Ganjam BJD President Ramesh Chandra Chau Patnaik and former district president Subash Moharana voiced their support. Both Patnaik and Moharana stressed that party supremo Naveen Patnaik has always stood by what is right. They added that the five-time Chief Minister has always done what is beneficial to people of Odisha in large and hence the decision to expel Gopalpur MLA must also be in that direction.
Pradeep was today expelled from the primary membership of the party for his anti-people activities. He spoke to media persons later and clarified his position. He said that since he is an elected people’s representative, he is answerable not just to his party but also to voters of his constituency.
Pradeep Panigrahi has held the seat of Gopalpur Assembly constituency since 2009 and has been rocked by several controversies. He requested the State to conduct free and fair investigation against charges pressed against him, if any.
