Ganjam: Police arrested a couple in Odisha’s Ganjam district for allegedly stealing cash and valuables from donation boxes in temples across the region. According to reports, Khallikote police nabbed the couple at Keshpur Square on the National Highway No 16 during a routine vehicle check on Thursday.
The accused, residents of Rambha area, were masquerading as devotees to and stealing cash and valuables from temples. During interrogation, the couple confessed to their involvement in the thefts.
Police seized cash to the tune of Rs 30,000, gold ornaments, two silver chains, and one stolen donation boxes from their scooty. They were stealing from temples in Khallikote, Keshpur and Rambha areas.
Chhatrapur SDPO Gourahari Sahu said that the police had launched an investigation into the series of thefts at the temples in the region. During scrutiny of CCTV video footage they found a couple riding a scooty and became suspicious of them.
