Berhampur: In a tragic incident, a youth, identified as Suba Rao of Kamalapur under Gopalpur police station limits in Ganjam district, died after jumping in front of a moving truck on National Highway 16 near Gopalpur on Saturday.
According to police, Rao parked a motorcycle on the roadside before suddenly leaping in front of a truck heading towards Berhampur. The truck ran over him, killing him instantly, and fled the scene.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the youth was under severe mental stress due to family discord, which may have prompted him to take this drastic step.
Initially, police believed the motorcycle found at the spot belonged to the deceased. However, registration details revealed that the two-wheeler was owned by a jawan currently on duty. Later, it was confirmed that Rao had borrowed the motorcycle from a neighbour before the incident.
Gopalpur police seized the body and sent it for postmortem. Police said a detailed investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
