Bhubaneswar: A youth was hacked to death when he was asleep at Pandia Pandara Sahi under Purusottampur police limits in Ganjam district late Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Murali Badatya.
According to sources, Murali was asleep at home while his father was sleeping on the verandah. Murali’s father found his son lying in a pool of blood when he went inside to have water in the late hours.
His father rushed Murali to Hinjilicut Sub-Divisional Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
On a tip-off, Purushottampur police reached the spot and launched an investigation to ascertain the reason behind the murder.
His family members suspect that miscreants might have hacked Murali after barging into the house.
There was a scuffle at the village during Danda nacha, a cultural programme. The scuffle might have some connection with the killing of Murali, said sources.
