Soro(Balasore): Around 100 students of Sirapur Nodal School in Sajanpur panchayat under Soro block in Balasore district on Thursday were admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) after taking midday meal at the school.
As many as 300 students were served rice and dal in midday meals at the school today. Later on, finding that a house gecko had fallen into the food, the serving of midday meal was stopped.
After taking midday meal several students complained of abdominal pain and fell ill. The school’s headmistress and school committee members rushed them to the CHC through 108 ambulances.
“My son who is 9 years old and studying in class IV complained of stomach ache and had bouts of vomiting after taking midday meal in the school. We came to know that a gecko had fallen into the food. His condition is serious he has been rushed to the hospital,” said a parent.
According to the school authorities, as many as 100 students have been hospitalised.
“When I was informed of a gecko to have fallen in the food, I immediately ordered to stop serving of midday meal to the children. Around 100 students have been shifted to the hospital. Our Sarpanch has accompanied the students to the hospital and I with our Assistant Teacher are rushing to the hospital,” said the headmistress of the school.
As news spread local MLA Madhab Dhada visited Soro CHC to take stock of the situation.
“Children of Sirapur Nodal School felt ill after taking midday meal in the school. The local Sarpanch has rushed them to the hospital. As I observed they are all well and will be soon discharged,” said Soro MLA Madhab Dhada.
Around 50 students have been hospitalised, Dhada added.
