**Bhubaneswar: ** In the run-up to the ensuing general elections-2019 and as per the instructions issued by the Elections Commission of India (ECI), Odisha hosted one-day vital ‘Inter-State Border Cooperation Meeting’ in which senior police officers of five states as well as delegates from the BSF, CRPF and SIV participated.
The five adjoining states are Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telengana, West Bengal and Odisha.
Briefing media, Odisha DGP R.P. Sharma said, “Inter-State Border Cooperation Meeting is being organized at Bhubaneswar. The senior police officers of five states are participating in it. Besides, senior officers of BSF, CRPF and SIV are also in the delegations.”
“As we are in the run up to the general elections, Election Commission of India has already held interactions with us through video conferencing and also during Odisha visit. Hence, we are striving to follow the Commission’s instructions in letter and spirit. In that direction, today’s significant meeting is being held here. In the past also we had such meetings and the more frequently we meet, the more the advantages we gain,” the Odisha DGP stated.
He further stated, “The important subjects for discussion are left wing extremism (LWE), inter-state criminals, organized crime gangs, narcotics peddling, illegal firearms, movements of inter-state criminals and cyber crime. These will be our main focus and how to curb them.”
