Bhubaneswar: The Puri Jagannath Temple is set to perform the Ghana Lagi ritual today, a significant ceremony aimed at rejuvenating the deities after their Snana Purnima bath. This ritual involves applying medicinal oil called ‘Ghana’ to the deities’ bodies to aid in their recovery.

As per reports, this ritual is performed on Trayodashi Tithi and involves applying a special medicinal oil to the deities. On Chaturdashi, the Datta Mohapatra servitors will perform the Banak Lagi ritual, marking the final phase before the deities’ Nabajoubana Darshan.

On Dwadashi tithi, yesterday, a grand procession was held to share the joyous news of the deities’ recovery with Puri Gajapati Maharaj. This ritual, known as Raja Prasad Bije, was performed with traditional fervour.

It is pertinent to mention that after the grand Snana Purnima bath, Lord Jagannath and his siblings fell sick and took refuge in the Anasara Ghara for treatment. As part of their recovery, the deities are being administered various herbal medicines.
