Balasore: A total of 28 ‘Telia Bhola’ fish caught in fishermen’s nets in Digha estuary on Odisha and West Bengal border have been auctioned for over Rs 35 lakh.
While each fish weighed around 8 to 10 kilograms, it was sold at a price of Rs 14,000 per kilogram. It was bought by a Kolkata-based pharmaceutical company.
The giant fish, colloquially known as ‘Telia Bhola’, has immense medicinal value.
The blubber of this fish has huge demand in the overseas markets and is exported for use in the manufacture of medicines.
