Bhubaneswar: The State Vigilance which is probing into the corruption case against CT & GST Officer Chittaranjan Mohanty, today shared details about assets owned by him and his family members.
According to the Vigilance, gold worth Rs 64 lakh and Rs 13 lakh in cash has been spotted in this case so far. The detections comprise – 19 gold biscuits weighing 433 grams and cash of Rs 5.40 lakh in a bank locker.
On March 31, Mohanty was caught by the Vigilance red handed while receiving a bribe of Rs 80,000 from businessman to furnish closure report in a case and release seized documents. He was working with the Enforcement Unit as a CT & GST Officer in Paradeep.
“In ongoing search, two lockers of Mohanty and his wife at Bank of Maharashtra and Punjab and Sind Bank in CDA, Cuttack were traced and opened, following which the gold and cash were found,” the Vigilance stated.
Mohanty has been booked by Cuttack Vigilance under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is on. Meanwhile, Mohanty has been sent to judicial custody till April 13, the Vigilance informed.
