Gold Chain Snatchers Strike Again In Odisha’s Capital
**Bhubaneswar:** Six armed miscreants looted a woman of her gold chain and earrings and attacked her husband, during an attempt to rescue her, at Phase-III in Sailashree Vihar of Bhubaneswar on Friday.
Reportedly, the woman was returning from a Yoga class with her daughter when six bike-borne miscreants intercepted her. They brandished a knife and gun and threatened her to hand over her ornaments. It was when her husband reached the spot to rescue her, miscreants attacked him with a knife. He tried to block the blow and sustained injuries on his right arm.
When some other morning walkers and locals rushed to the spot, the looters hurled stones at them and threatened to kill them before decamping with the loot. Later, the aggrieved persons rushed to Chandrasekharpur police station and lodged a complaint in this regard.
It is worthwhile to mention here that residents of Sailashree Vihar have gone through similar experience in the past and recurrence of such incidents has again created panic among them.
Twin City Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty said, “Sense of security of public is the yardstick to measure policing. It is our responsibility to prevent recurrence of such incident so that people will feel safe. Such crimes are a major challenge for police which need to be checked. Preventive patrolling will be done in the city and we will focus on prevention and detection of such crimes.”
