Bhubaneswar: A gold merchant and his wife are in critical condition after they were allegedly attacked by a thief who broke into their residence in Berhampur’s Gaudasahi area in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The intruder, armed with a sharp weapon, allegedly assaulted the couple before fleeing the scene. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to apprehend the suspect.
According to sources, the incident occurred in the Gaudasahi area, which falls under the jurisdiction of Bada Bazar police station in Berhampur. Initial reports suggest the thief entered the residence of gold trader Satish Kumar Subudhi in the wee hours by cutting through the iron grill.
However, Satish and his wife woke up after listening to the noise inside the house and caught sight of the intruder. The thief quickly attacked Satish with a sharp weapon and then turned on his wife when she tried to intervene, before fleeing the scene.
Soon after the incident, Satish and his wife were rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. Their condition is stated to be critical.
Upon being informed, police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
