Bhubaneswar: A joint raid conducted by the GST team and Jaleswar police seized gold worth Rs 1 crore and Rs 4 lakh from two cars at a toll plaza on the Odisha-West Bengal border late Tuesday night.
According to sources, police officials were carrying out vehicle inspections near the West Bengal border as part of their election duty. Police waylaid two cars coming from Kolkata and seized gold weighing 1.57 kg wrapped in 11 packets from a car. As the passengers travelling in the car failed to produce necessary documents and give satisfactory reply to the police question, the vehicle inspection team seized the ornament worth Rs 1 crore and detained passengers for interrogation.
However, the origin of the seized ornament is yet to be traced.
In a separate incident, police also seized Rs 4 lakh uncounted cash from a car during a vehicle inspection at the same place.
