Bhubaneswar: A major derailment occurred on Wednesday afternoon when 25 wagons of an iron ore-laden goods train went off the tracks near Chimidipalli in Andhra Pradesh. The incident took place at 1:05 PM on the Araku–Kottavalasa section, which falls under the Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway (ECoR).
According to an official press release from ECoR, senior railway officials rushed to the spot immediately to assess the damage and oversee restoration efforts. A relief train was also promptly dispatched to aid in the restoration process.
The affected section is primarily a freight corridor, but the derailment has impacted some passenger services as well. Trains operating between Visakhapatnam and Kirandul have been diverted via Vizianagaram and Rayagada to minimize disruptions.
“Resource mobilization is in full swing to ensure swift restoration of rail services,” the ECoR statement added.
No casualties or injuries have been reported so far. The cause of the derailment is yet to be officially determined.
