Bhubaneswar: Train services were disrupted at Cuttack Railway Station as three wagons of a goods train derailed on Monday morning.
According to sources in the East Coast Railway (ECoR), the empty freight train was en route to Paradip when the derailment took place on Route No.8 (loop line) at Cuttack Yard. The cause of the incident is suspected to be related to track switching. Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties reported.
As per the Railway reports, the main line connecting Bhadrak, Cuttack, and Visakhapatnam remains unaffected and fully operational. Additionally, train movement towards Pradip has not been impacted, ensuring minimal disruption to rail services despite the incident. Besides, the Relief Train with machines, materials and manpower has already been mobilised. And the loop line in the yard will be restored soon.
Soon after the mishap, the Railway authorities have initiated restoration work to clear the affected tracks and assess any potential damage to the rail infrastructure.
A probe has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the derailment, with senior railway officials and a technical team rushing to the site to oversee the process.
