Puri: Goods worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in a major fire that broke out in a soap factory in Puri’s Mangalaghat around noon on Wednesday.

Fire Services personnel reached the spot after receiving information and made valiant efforts to douse the fire. The fire is yet to be brought under control completely.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire broke out in the factory due to a short circuit and spread around in the blink of an eyelid. As a result, the oil used for making soap in the factory caught fire making the situation more hazardous. The asbestos, walls, etc. of the factory melted in the heat of the fire but no casualty has been reported.
