**Bhubaneswar: ** Former Solicitor General of India Gopal Subramanium, who had been appointed as the amicus curiae by the Supreme Court for dealing with the Puri Jagannath Temple (Srimandir)’ reforms, reportedly exempted himself from the post citing personal grounds and the apex court has also reportedly accepted his request for stepping down.
It has further been reported that the new amicus curiae for the Srimandir is likely to be appointed by December.
In his letter to the Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court, Gopal Subramanium has reportedly mentioned that he would not be able to continue as the amicus curiae of Puri Jagannath Temple reforms matter owing to certain unavoidable personal circumstances.
Following such a development, the hearing on Puri bandh violence incident of October 3rd (Srimandir Dhadi Darshan protest) couldn’t be taken up today while the next hearing date has been posted by the Supreme Court on second week of January next year.
Notably, the amicus curiae had visited Puri prior to the October 3rd ‘Dhadi Darshan’ protest to hold talks with both the servitors and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) here. He had been appointed amicus curiae by the Supreme Court and was to submit a report to the apex court on its directives to the SJTA to implement 12 disciplinary reforms.
