Gopalpur Beach Gang-Rape: NCW Takes Suo Motu Cognizance, Asks DGP For Action

Bhubaneswar: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the shocking gang-rape of a 20-year-old girl student at Gopalpur beach in Ganjam, Odisha. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has directed the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha, to ensure the immediate arrest of all remaining accused, conduct a swift and time-bound investigation, and provide free medical and psychological support to the victim.

Rahatkar has also emphasised that compensation must be ensured under Section 396 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. The NCW has demanded an Action Taken Report within three days.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday evening when the victim visited the beach with her male friend. The accused, all from the Hinjilicut area in Ganjam, allegedly tied up the male friend before committing the crime. Ten people involved in the case have already been arrested by the police
