Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch of Odisha police today arrested Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy in connection with a case registered at the Cyber police Station.
The Legislator has been booked under multiple Sections (419/420/467/468/469/471/120-B) of the IPC and Sections 66C / 66D of the Information Technology Act. “There is sufficient prima facie evidence against him in this case,” the Crime Branch stated.
“Evidence has come to light that Sri Panigrahi collected money on behalf of One Akash kumar Pathak, falsely promising jobs in Tata company to people,” the CB added.
This case relates to impersonation, cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy and other cyber offences by one Akash Kumar Pathak, posing himself as in charge Managing Director of Tata Motors passenger car division.
Earlier today evening, Panigrahy was taken by Crime Branch sleuths from his quarters at Unit 6 area of the city to the agency’s office here. The State Police informed about his arrest around an hour after this development.
