Berhampur: Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahy faced stiff opposition from hundreds of locals including BJD workers at Kanishi on the national highway.
Protestors allegedly intercepted the legislator’s car near Lanjipalli overbridge while he was on his way to attend a programme at Kanishi Balaji Vidyapith, sources said.
Protestors holding placards naming the MLA as sand and liquor mafia stopped the MLA’s car and resorted to ‘Go Back’ sloganeering against the lawmaker.
A scuffle ensued between Panigrahy’s supporters and the protestors.
Protestors hurled eggs, water bottles and stones at the legislator’s vehicle. Police picked up several individuals from the spot to ease the situation.
Protestors alleged that Panigrahy had cheated them of huge amounts of money on the pretext of providing them with jobs at Tata Motors. They alleged that he was involved in chit fund scam.
