Bhubaneswar: Goutam Das, a student of SAI International School in Bhubaneswar, has been declared the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) topper from Odisha with a total score of 99.9990357.

Son of Rabindra Das and Madhumita Das, from Mansingh Bazar in Balasore district, Goutam was pursuing Integrated Plus Two at SAI International School besides taking coaching at Aakash Institute.

Talking to OMMCOM NEWS, Goutam said that during his preparation for JEE Main, he dedicated six to seven hours of the day for self-study and his main focus was NCERT books.

Speaking about his challenges, he said, “I have completed my Class 10 from Odia medium, so understanding the course in English during my Plus Two 1st year was difficult for me. But gradually I overcame the language problem.”

Goutam now aims to clear the JEE Advanced and pursue B.Tech at IIT Bombay following which he will either become a scientist or clear UPSC to become an IAS officer.

He gave the credit for his achievement to his parents, his teachers at SAI International School, and his mentors at Aakash Institute.

Proud of his son, Goutam’s father Rabindra said, “He had earlier cleared the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) and was the Odisha State 2nd topper from Shishu Mandir during his board exams. We had expected he would clear the JEE Main but had not expected that he will be the topper.”

Taking to Twitter, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “Greetings and congratulations to Goutam Das, who topped the IIT-JEE Main exam from Odisha, and to all the successful candidates. Wishing everyone more success and a brighter future in the coming days.”
