Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has launched a thorough investigation into the deaths of patients at Koraput Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital. A high-level expert team comprising senior experts from SCB Medical College in Cuttack and MKCG Medical College in Berhampur has been formed to probe the incident.
The investigation was ordered following allegations of medical negligence after five patients died within a short span on Tuesday night, with another death reported on Wednesday morning. The patients were undergoing treatment for various ailments, including cervical cancer, stab injuries, and liver disease. Relatives alleged that the patients died after being administered wrong injections, which raised suspicions of medical negligence.
The expert team will conduct a field investigation and submit its report within 2 days. The Health and Family Welfare Department has assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty of negligence.
The hospital authorities have denied allegations of medical negligence, stating that the patients were critically ill and receiving standard treatment.
