Balasore: A bizarre incident has come to light in Balasore district, where a huge quantity of government medicines meant for patients has been found dumped on the roadside. The medicines, which are still within their expiry dates, were discovered lying on the Srijanga-Rasalpur road under the Remuna block in the district.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the healthcare system in the district, with many questioning the justification for throwing life-saving medicines on the roadside. The dumped medicines include 50-60 bottles of folic syrups and iron tablets, which were found a few kilometres away from the Srijanga Remuna Community Health Centre.
The district administration has taken cognisance of the issue. The Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Dr. Pravat Kumar Behera, stated that an investigation is underway. “We got the information yesterday and a team visited the spot to conduct an inquiry. The team will submit a report today and action will be taken against those responsible,” he said.
The CDMO added that the team will investigate whether the medicines were expired or not, and take necessary action accordingly. The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who are demanding strict action against those responsible for the dumping of medicines.
