Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has given the green light to a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for expanding eco-tourism facilities at Satkosia Tiger Reserve (also known as Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve), with a projected investment of approximately Rs 100 crore.

The initiative aims to develop contemporary, visitor-friendly infrastructure within the reserve to draw in greater numbers of nature enthusiasts and tourists, while adhering to conservation standards.

Government has pinpointed six priority sites for these upgrades: Purunakote, Jagannathpur, Tikarpada, Baliput, Kusang, and Chamundia. These will serve as new or enhanced entry points and activity zones. Planned amenities include food courts, designated bonfire spots, elevated watchtowers for wildlife viewing, scenic river-view decks, and other supportive facilities to improve the overall visitor experience.

The project emphasizes sustainable development in compliance with tiger conservation guidelines and Supreme Court directives.) This move positions Satkosia—spanning over 1,136 sq km across multiple districts and home to tigers, elephants, and diverse biodiversity—as a key eco-tourism destination in Odisha.
