Cuttack: Just over a day after an elderly man was murdered during an alleged loot bid at Lendura Bhagabanpur village under Nemal police limits in Cuttack district, the investigation revealed the involvement of his fraternal grandnephew behind the incident.
Salepur SDPO Bimal Barik informed that the deceased Hrusikesh Muduli and his wife Kanaklata were asleep on Thursday night when the former’s grandnephew Omkar Muduli attempted to steal valuables from their almirah.
Hrusikesh suddenly woke up and caught Omkar in the act. As a result, Omkar attacked Hrusikesh and later Kanaklata when she tried to intervene. Following it, he set a blanket on fire and made it look like some looters had barged into the house and attacked the elderly couple.
A police team had been formed to probe into the case. During the investigation, the weapon of offense was seized. It suggested the involvement of Omkar in the incident. Subsequently, he was apprehended from Cuttack Railway Station during an attempt to flee.
During interrogation, Omkar confessed to committing the crime. Rs 4,170 in cash, a gold chain, earrings, silver jewellery, a gold bracelet, and other valuables were recovered from his possession.
