Bhubaneswar: Dhauli Police on Monday arrested a groom for allegedly cheating a woman by promising marriage and then attempting to wed another woman in Bhubaneswar.
The accused has been identified as Biswajit Sahoo, a resident of Puri district.
According to sources, the complainant alleged that she and the accused had been in a serious relationship for several years and had been living together for the past one year. She claimed that Sahoo had repeatedly assured her of marriage.
However, on Sunday night, the woman, accompanied by police officials, arrived at a wedding mandap in Bhubaneswar where Sahoo was preparing to marry another woman. She confronted him at the venue, accusing him of betrayal and deception.
Following the incident, police detained the groom and later arrested him based on the woman’s complaint. He was produced before a local court on Monday.
Further investigation is underway.
