Bhubaneswar: Five people were injured in a group clash in a slum on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Sunday late night prompting the authorities to deploy three platoons of police.
According to reports, a group of residents in the slum under Bharatpur police limits confronted another group on charges of felling a bayan tree and demolishing a concrete circular dais around it. Initially, this led to heated exchange of words between the two groups.
The situation worsened as the two groups soon turned violent and attacked each other with sticks and other weapons. At least five people were injured in the incident and were rushed to hospital.
On being informed, a police team reached the slum and brought the situation under control. Three platoons of police have also been deployed in the slum to prevent any further flare-up. In addition, the administration has imposed restrictive orders under Section 163 to maintain law and order in the slum.
