Cuttack: Tension ran high at Netaji Subash Memorial City College in Cuttack on Monday after a clash broke out between two groups over alleged intake of ganja.
As per reports, the incident occurred when some former students and outsiders allegedly forced current students to consume ganja. When the students refused, they were brutally attacked. As a result, a scuffle ensued between two groups leaving two members from each side injured.
A written complaint has been filed at the Badambadi police station in this connection.
According to sources, some former students of the college and outsiders have formed a group in the name of Black Brothers. The group members are alleged to have been involved in many unscrupulous activities. The Black Brothers group members allegedly called some Plus II students and forced them to consume cannabis. It led to a fight between Black Brothers group members and current students.
Upon being informed, police initiated an investigation and hospitalized the injured students for treatment.
Meanwhile, police are also examining the video footage of the clash, which will help determine the course of action.
Swostik Panda, Assistant Commissioner of Police of Zone 6 said, “We have not received any written complaint in this regard. A scuffle ensued between Plus II and Plus III students over some issues. Students from both sides received minor injuries. Though the reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, initial probe suggests membership row led to the college brawl.”
“However, police have taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and started interrogating students involved in the incident. We rushed the injured from both sides to the hospital. We are examining video footage and action will be taken accordingly” added Panda.
