Bhubaneswar: Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) has come up with a proposal for getting a group health insurance for all its alumni. This is a big step for the journalists working on field braving against all odds.
This proposal was announced by Ritesh Verma (founder member, IIMCAA) in the 10th Annual Alumni Meet of Indian Institute of Mass Communication – Koo Connections 2022 (Odisha chapter) and 6th Alumni Awards – IFFCO IIMCAA Awards which was held in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
The event was graced by Dr Mrinal Chatterjee (Director, IIMC, Dhenkanal), Dadan Viswakarma (Governing Council Member from Central Committee) Sanjay Sahoo (President, Odisha chapter) Jyoti Prakash Mohapatra (General Secretary).
Talking about group health insurance to be initiated by IIMCAA during these Covid times, Ritesh Verma urged the fellow alumni to go for it in large numbers. Dr Mrinal Chatterjee emphasized on creating a stronger bond within the alumni which would help in times of need.
Senior journalists Kasturi Ray, Jajati Karan and Sarada Lahangir talked about the importance of being an IIMCian and how should the alumni encash on the opportunities provided by IIMCAA.
Sarada Lahangir was awarded Journalist of the year- Publishing for her story on common people affected by Maoist menace with a special focus on women and children. Jyotismita Nayak got the Indian Language reporter of the year (broadcasting) for her story on the local farmers and environmentalists of Jajpur Kalinga Nagar.
The event also witnessed Silver Jubilee (1996-97) celebration and senior journalists Jajati Karan, Sharda Lahangir, Tapan Swain, Sobha Surin, Pabitra Mohan Senapati, Sangita Agarwal and Pradeepta Tripathy were felicitated by the organisers.
More than 150 alumni from different batches gathered together to forge bonds and get connected with batchmates and colleagues. Another such meet is scheduled to be held at IIMC campus, Dhenkanal on 23rd April where the scholarship for digital media will be awarded from the existing batch.
The Alumni Association, which started with one chapter in Delhi, is now making its presence in over 20 chapters/sub chapters across India and 13 international chapters, in UAE, Germany, Singapore, Bangladesh, Nepal, China, Ghana, Maldives, Australia, US, UK and Uzbekistan.
