Bhubaneswar: Due to the prevalent heatwave conditions in Odisha and no let-up till May 22 as per the forecast made by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)’s Regional Centre here, Odisha Government has tightened up its belt to deal with the exigencies.
Briefing media today at the State Secretariat, Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi informed that the District Collectors, especially of the western Odisha region, to be on alert and make provisions for drinking water kiosks and other requisite facilities.
The SRC also informed media that the State Administration has not yet received any reports of sunstroke deaths.
“Heatwave warning has been issued, especially in some districts of western Odisha region. This heatwave will prevail till 8.30 am of May 22. We have send warning through SMS to the BSNL mobile phone users of those districts and has also requested the people not to venture out in the hot sun as well as take all sorts of precautionary measures,” stated the SRC.
He added, “The District Collectors have already been advised to take necessary steps from the onset of summer. They have been instructed to make provisions for drinking water kiosks, reschedule the job timing of the workers, arrangement of heat ward in the hospitals, air-conditioners should be working well, uninterrupted power supply, etc.”
“Till now we haven’t received any report of sunstroke deaths,” the Odisha SRC claimed.
