Bhubaneswar: The state commercial taxes (CT) and GST officials seized around 24 kg gold ornaments from a passenger at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
The CT and GST officials seized the ornaments as the carrier failed to produce valid documents for four kg gold.
The consignment was being transported in three packets through a logistics company. The gold was seized as the transporter failed to produce tax invoice and other documents, said a GST official.
According to reports, the CT & GST received information that gold mediaseo.id was arriving on Indigo flight from Mumbai. Later, CT & GST team waited outside the airport and intercepted the carrier while coming out with 20 kg of gold. A preliminary inquiry was conducted at the CT & GST office in Bal Vihar where it was found that the papers were up-to-date for 20 kg gold but there was no satisfactory document for the remaining 4 kg gold.
It is worth mentioning that the taxmen had seized about 50 kg gold 200 kg silver ornaments from a container vehicle near the Bhubaneswar airport on August 26 this year.
