Rayagada: Odisha Vigilance officials today arrested one Antaryami Behera, Block Education Officer (BEO), Gunupur in Rayagada district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000 from a retired teacher in order to release pending arrear dues and submit Service Book for finalization of pension.
Based on a complaint by the retired teacher, Vigilance officials laid a trap today wherein accused Behera was allegedly caught in his rented residential house at Gunupur while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the retired teacher.
The entire bribe money was recovered from Behera’s possession and seized in presence of witnesses.
Following the trap, Vigilance officials launched simultaneous searches on the rented residential house of the BEO at Shantinagar, Gunupur; residential flat at Subham Daitari Complex in front of KIIT, Bhubaneswar; house at native village Barapalli in Bargarh district and his office chamber at Gunupur.
He has been forwarded to the Court.
A case has been registered against Behera at Koraput Vigilance police station under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and is under investigation.
