Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a newborn girl was found half-buried on the roadside near Tulundupali village under the Binika Police limits in Subarnapur district, on Saturday early morning.
As per reports, a resident of Binika spotted the baby, who was partially buried in the ground, and immediately rushed the baby, who was alive but in a critical condition, to the Binika Community Health Centre. As the baby was suffering from hypothermia, she was shifted to Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital.
On a tip-off, Binika police reached the hospital and launched an investigation into the matter, suspecting that the baby might have been abandoned by her parents.
“I was shocked to see the tiny infant lying on the road, but as soon as I realized she was still breathing, I sprang into action,” said Santosh Nayi, the good Samaritan who rescued the baby.
“She was covered in mud, dirt, and blood, but I quickly rushed her to the hospital. On doctors’ advice, I took her to Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital as her condition was critical.”
Meanwhile, Santosh and his wife, who have been childless for 15 years, have expressed their desire to adopt the abandoned baby girl. The couple has approached the district administration, urging it to permit them to take custody of the child.
It is learnt that the condition of the baby girl is stated to be stable now.
