Balasore: The half-burnt body of an elderly woman was recovered from Belda village under Kamarda police limits in the Bhograi block of Balasore district on Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Manjurani Behera, wife of Khudiram Behra.

Family members of the deceased informed that Manjurani committed self-immolation over a domestic dispute. The family had their dinner and everyone went to sleep last night. This morning, the family members discovered Manjurani’s half-burnt body in her room.

Meanwhile, some villagers alleged that the lady was killed by her son and daughter-in-law as they wanted to usurp her insurance money, which had matured recently.

On being informed, Kamarda police arrived at the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. The police have also initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the woman’s death.
