Bhubaneswar: Lord Hanuman temples and Shakti peeths across the State today witnessed long queue of devotees on the occasion of Maha Bisuba Sankranti and the birthday of Lord Hanuman.
The day is significant in Odisha as it marks the beginning of Odia New Year. Maha Bisuba Sankranti, also known as Pana Sankranti falls on the first day of the traditional Hindu solar calendar month of Mesh. Hence, it is equivalent to lunar month Baisakha.
The festival signifies the transition of the sun into the zodiac sign of Aries.
A special delicious drink called Bel Pana is an important feature of the day. It is traditionally prepared on Pana Sankranti which is made of water, jaggery and wood apple (Bel) pulp mixed with various spices and coconut.
The special drink is distributed among friends, family members and relatives as a symbol of community bonding.
Communities participate in various religious events, fairs, participate in traditional dance or acrobatic performances. Community feasts are also prepared at places of worship.
The auspicious day brings people together, fostering a sense of unity and harmony within the community.
