Jharsuguda: Farmers and hawkers who had arrived at the weekly market in Jharsuguda town on Tuesday resorted to protest by dumping vegetables on the street after they were barred to sell them in the market.
Reportedly, the district administration has closed the weekly market across the district for the coming three weeks starting from April 2 as a measure to check the resurgence of COVID-19 cases.
Jharsuguda Collector Saroj Kumar Samal had earlier informed that daily markets at different locations dealing in vegetables and non-vegetarian food items will be dispersed over multiple locations.
However, the farmers and hawkers alleged that the district administration has not arranged alternate locations for them. As a result, they are unable to sustain their families.
