Puri: After the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) commenced construction of a mechanical working platform for removal of sand from the 13th century Konark Sun Temple’s assembly hall (Jagamohan), amicus curiae appointed by the Orissa High Court N K Mohanty and member of Sun Temple Expert Advisory Committee Engineer N C Pal today visited the world heritage monument to take stock of the situation.
“Detailed drawings have been prepared on how sand will be removed and by using which method. They (ASI) have formed a committee which after making a detailed study has prepared the drawings. They explained these to me at the site. I also climbed the top and inspected myself. It will take some time and will be done on a stage by stage basis. I strongly believe that ASI will do a good job. I too have same apprehension as that of the public. The platform that has been constructed is for examination. I feel steps taken till now is okay as per my understanding,” informed, amicus curiae N K Mohanty.
