HC Directs Durga Puja Committees To Inform Idol Size To Cuttack DCP Before 7 PM

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today directed the Durga Puja Committees of Cuttack to inform the City Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) about the idol size of their pandals latest by 7 PM today.

Following that the DCP through his agency will conduct a verification of the idol size before granting permission for holding of puja.

However, the puja will be held in accordance with Covid guidelines issued by the government.

The High Court issued the directive while hearing petitions filed by different Puja Committees seeking judicial intervention to relax the restrictions imposed by the State Government on Durga Puja celebrations.

It is worth mentioning here that the State Government in its guidelines for the upcoming puja season in the months of September, October and November. Durga Puja, Laxmi Puja, Kali Puja had categorically stated that the size of idol shall be less than 4 feet.

The guidelines had further said that Puja pandals/mandaps shall be covered on three sides. The 4th side shall be also covered in a way not to allow any public view of idols. There shall be no darshan by public/devotees.
