HC Seeks Affidavit On Durga Idol Height, Next Hearing On Sept 30

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today fixed September 30 as the next date for hearing of the petition challenging Twin City Police Commissioner’s order restricting the height of Goddess Durga idols in community pandals during forthcoming Durga Puja celebrations in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

The High Court while conducting a preliminary hearing in the matter has directed the Police Commissioner to submit an affidavit before it in this connection before the next date of hearing.

“We had challenged the Police Commissioner’s order to restrict the height of the idol to four feet in the High Court through a writ petition. The High Court after conducting a preliminary hearing ordered the Police Commissioner to file an affidavit. The matter will come up for hearing tomorrow,” informed Suryakant Sangneria, senior lawyer and president, Balu Bazaar Puja Committee, Cuttack talking to reporters here.

It may be pointed out here that Police Commissioner Sudhansu Sarangi had issued an order on September 17 that height of idols in Durga Puja pandals should not exceed four feet as per the guidelines issued by the State Government.
