Cuttack: Odisha Health Department officials along with local police raided the premises of Dr Punyashlok Das in Friends Colony and arrested him on charges of performing illegal sex determination tests on pregnant women.

The team also rescued a female patient and seized abortion pills, an ultrasound machine, and a bag containing cash.

According to Prashant Kumar Samal, ADM (F&W), Cuttack, acting on a tip-off, they raided Dr Punyashlok’s residence and found several indiscriminating documents related to illegal sex determination. “Dr Punyashlok was suspended twice earlier for the same offence but did not mend his ways. He carried out sex determination tests on pregnant women with the help of his wife and son,” Samal said.

Samal said that an FIR will be registered against Dr Punyashlok soon and they would recommend the termination of his medical license.
