Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling reviewed the prevention of malaria and dengue diseases with district officials through a virtual meeting. The government aims to eliminate public health problems, including vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue.

The Minister emphasised the importance of joint efforts to combat these diseases and directed officials to take proactive measures, particularly in malaria-prone areas. He reviewed the distribution of indoor residual spraying (IRS) and long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLIN).

Dr. Mahaling instructed officials to prepare for the early monsoon season and implement measures to prevent the spread of diseases. He emphasised expanding the screening system for malaria in residential schools, malaria-prone areas, and among migrant workers.

The central government is set to provide 1.57 crore medicated mosquito nets, which will be monitored by ground-level officials to ensure proper use. The Minister stressed promoting public awareness through self-help groups, youth clubs, and students to prevent malaria and dengue.

He also advised keeping dengue platelets in stock and ensuring the proper functioning of malaria and dengue prevention teams. The virtual meeting included officials from 18 districts, highlighting the government’s commitment to tackling these public health challenges.
