Bhubaneswar: Healthcare services at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack have been severely impacted as over 250 house surgeons have gone on strike, ceasing all work.
According to sources, house surgeons led by Saswat Mohanty and Ganesh Behera staged a protest in front of the office of the SCB Superintendent alleging misbehaviour by a nursing officer.
House surgeons alleged that despite repeated pleas regarding the misbehaviour of the nursing officer with surgeons, the hospital authorities are yet to take action in this regard. SCB authorities’ delay in taking action despite repeated pleas prompted us to launch the strike.
The house surgeons submitted a memorandum to the SCB Superintendent demanding action against the concerned nursing officer for misbehaving with doctors.
Saswat Mohanty, President of the House Surgeons’ Union, said, “We are demanding immediate transfer of nursing officer against whom we have brought misbehaviour complaint. Besides, we demand the issuance of a directive regarding the work of house surgeons and nursing officers. At the same time, we are sorry that health services have been hampered due to the cease-work protest. If our demands are not met at the earliest, we will quit emergency duty.”
On the other hand, the Nursing Association filed a complaint with the Manglabag police in this connection.
