Bhubaneswar: The incessant rainfall in Malkangiri district has caused chaos in healthcare services at the Jodamba Primary Health Centre, located under the Chitrakonda block. Rainwater has flooded the hospital premises, severely impacting the facility’s operations.
As per the report, the situation is dire, with medicines and essential medical supplies being damaged after rainwater submerged the hospital premises. Also, important hospital documents have been damaged by the rainwater. As a result, patient care services have been disrupted, forcing officials to scramble for alternative arrangements.
The Jodamba Primary Health Centre (PHC) serves as a lifeline for approximately 15,000 residents of six panchayats, providing crucial medical care and services. However, the recent flooding has brought the healthcare facility to its knees, causing immense inconvenience to patients and locals alike.
The persistent problem of rainwater submergence has become an annual ordeal, with the hospital premises inundated every year during the monsoon season. Despite this, the district administration has failed to implement a permanent solution, leaving the community to suffer.
It is pertinent to note that nonstop rain followed by a surge in water levels in the rivers has cut off several areas of Malkangiri district from the remaining world. Rainwater is flowing above 5-6 feet in several areas marooning people in their homes. Hundreds of vehicles, some carrying essential commodities, have been stranded in different parts of the district since Sunday.
