Bhubaneswar: The joy of Dhani Naik, a sweeper at police headquarters in Cuttack, knew no bounds today when he was called to the head office and felicitated by DGP Arun Sarangi with a tight hug in the presence of several senior officers.
Reasoned, Dhani retired from the service today after a long year tenure. Being an ordinary sweeper, he had never imagined that the police chief would honour him in such a grand manner. The moment left him teary-eyed. He showered praises on the DGP for his good gesture and act of greatness.
“I received a phone call from police headquarters and was told to come to the office for farewell. When I reached, DG sir felicitated me with a certificate and hugged me with affection. It was unbelievable for me. It was a great honour for me. I am proud of being an employee in the police department. I am very happy today.” an elated Dhani said.
“DGP called me and sat with me in the presence of senior officers and enquired about my family. Tears shed down from my eyes with joy”, a jubilant Dhani said.
The felicitation event was also shared on the ‘X’ handle of the Odisha Police with the photo of DGP and Dhani. The picture is doing rounds on social media rapidly.
Such act of Odisha police garnered applause from various sections.
Senior IPS officer Sanjay Kumar, ADG (Law and Order) reacted “The picture speaks volumes. It shows the sensitivity and greatness of the DGP. Respect Sir.”
