Bhubaneswar: As the heat wave continues to singe Odisha, Bhubaneswar on Wednesday the mercury level stood at 32°C as early as 8.30 am.
Meanwhile, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here issued a heat wave warning for seven districts in the state – Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Boudh districts on Wednesday. The MeT office said that heat wave conditions continued as an anti-cyclonic circulation over central India did not weaken as expected. There is no sign of any relief from the sweltering heat for the next two days.
At the same time, the weather office has forecast thunderstorms and lightning at some places in the state between Thursday and Saturday under influence of an approaching western disturbance. However, there may be a slight drop in the mercury level if thunderstorms occur.
On Tuesday, 29 stations in Odisha recorded over 40°C with Jharsuguda along with Hamirpur in east Uttar Pradesh being the hottest place in the country.
The state government has closed all schools and Anganwadi Centre for Classes I up to Classes XII till April 20 in view of the intense heat wave sweeping across the state.
