Bhubaneswar: Heat wave conditions prevailed in Odisha as maximum temperature shot up to 40°C and above in as many as eight places across the State.
Baripada and Jharsuguda remained the hottest by recording a maximum day temperature of 40.4°C each, according to the evening weather bulletin of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD’s) regional office here.
The other places where the mercury breached the 40°C mark are Bolangir 40.3°C, Talcher, Bhawanipatna, Titilagarh, Nayagarh and Boudh each recorded 40.0°C.
The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 39.4 each.
Relative humidity remaining high in most places added to the miseries of the people.
According to the IMD, under the impact of the prevailing Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation, Maximum temperature (Day Temperature) is very likely to rise by 2 to 4°C over the districts of Odisha during the next 2 days and no large change thereafter.
Consequently, maximum temperature (Day Temperature) is likely to be more than 40°C at many places over the districts of Odisha and is likely to be above normal by 3 to 5°C over the districts of Odisha from 4th to 6th March 2024.
Also, the maximum temperature (Day Temperature) is likely to be between 39 to 41°C at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha and between 37 to 39°C over the coastal districts of Odisha during the next 4 to 5 days, the IMD added.
