Bhubaneswar: Even as the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here forecasted a slight drop in day temperature on Sunday, five stations in Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, recorded 37°C and above by 11.30 am today.
Jharsuguda was the hottest place in Odisha at 39.6°C followed by Balasore and Bhubaneswar at 38°C each, Sambalpur (37.2°C) and Gopalpur (37°C). Chandbali recorded 36.6°C and the day temperature in Puri and Keonjhar 36.2°C each before noon.
By 2.30 pm, the day temperatures in Sambalpur were 42.2°C, Jharsuguda at 41.6°C, Hirakund at 41°C and Bhubaneswar at 39.2°C.
According to an IMD bulletin release at 8.45 am Sunday, light/moderate isolated rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds is likely over Odisha from April 16-19. Thunderstorm with lightning & gusty wind (30-40 kmph) is likely at isolated places in Odisha for five days from April 16.
“The rainfall activity will occur as the moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal is expected to recommence,” said Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre scientist Umasankar Das.
Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur and Nuapada districts, while dry weather is likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha on Monday.
The weather office has also issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightening very likely to occur at one or two in districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar and Bhadrak districts.
