**Bhubaneswar: ** Close on the heels of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik re-extending the school summer vacation till June 25 owing to the prevailing heat wave condition as south-west monsoon has gone weak soon after kissing southern parts of Odisha, State Labour and ESI Department on Wednesday (June 20) restricted the working hours of outdoor labourers.
As per the direction issued to all State Government departments, Central Government departments, private employers, all commercial and industrial organizations and also the contractors, working outdoors by the labourers has been restricted between 11 am and 3.30 pm till June 30 in view of the fatal heat wave as 42 sunstroke deaths have been reported since April this year in Odisha.
The circular of State Labour and ESI Department also specifies that in case of emergent tasks to be undertaken, the concerned employers should take adequate precautionary measures like pre-arrangement of cold drinking water, shady and cool shelter, medical aid as well as doctor for dealing with exigency and ORS packets for each of the labourers employed outdoors.
Besides this, the circular has also issued instructions to all Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs), Sub-Divisional Medical Officers (SDMOs), all Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and ESI Hospitals to remain alert and prepared for dealing with the sunstroke patients rushed to them.
