Bhubaneswar: After a brief lull, the heat wave condition is likely to return to Odisha as India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the maximum day temperature to remain above 40 degrees C in several parts of interior Odisha from Saturday.
Maximum temperature is likely to be 40°C or more at many places in the districts of interior Odisha during May 18 to 21 due to strengthening of northwesterly and northerly dry winds in middle and upper level of the atmosphere & simultaneous weakening in moisture-carrying winds from Bay of Bengal, the IMD stated through a special bulletin.
Consequently, maximum temperature (Day Temperature) is likely to be above normal by 3 to 5°C over some districts of interior Odisha from May 18 to 21. The weather department advised to take precautionary measure while going outside during the peak hours of the day between 11 AM and 3 PM.
Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at a few places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati on May 18 and 19.
Heat wave conditions are likely to persist at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda,Bargarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, and Kandhamal on May 20.
The districts like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Deogarh, Angul, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal and Kandhamal may witness heat wave condition on May 21, the IMD said.
