Bhubaneswar: The celebrations to welcome 2023 are going to be special as people in the Twin City will celebrate new year’s eve after a break of two years owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the countdown to New Year’s eve begins, the Commissionerate of Police has beefed up arrangements to ensure that the 31st December night passes off in merry, peacefully.
DCP Prateek Singh said that picketing and patrolling will begin at 7 pm on Saturday (December 31) and continue up until 2 am at midnight. There will be check posts at a total 28 points in the capital city.
With fun and festive New Year parties lined up at different locations in the city, Bhubaneswar UPD personnel will be deployed at almost all locations where the ‘Zero Night’ celebrations are scheduled.
Rash drivers, wheeling at high speed risking the lives of the general public and commuters will not be spared, the police said, adding that special attention will be mounted on drunk drivers.
“Quick Action Team (QAT) cops will be deployed at 4 places and the Striking Force personnel at 3 places, the DCP said. A total 13 platoon force will guard Bhubaneswar Saturday night,” Singh added.
Drunken driving enforcement will be executed at as many as 17 locations. The QAT will be placed at Station Square, Kalpana Square, Khandagiri Square, and Rasulgarh.
On 1st January 2023, 10 Sections of force will be stationed at tourist places to check crowding and any untoward incident. Traffic and general advisories will be shared with the public on social media regularly, the police added.
